The Department Of Dentistry At The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Joined The Rest Of The World In Celebrating World Oral Health Day On Thursday, March 20, 2025, With The Theme, " Happy Mouth, Happy Mind". The Celebration Began With An Official Visit To The Hospital’s Management, Followed By A Public Health Campaign, Oral Health Education, At The Family Medicine Clinic Of The Hospital. Leading The Team, Dr. Tuoyo Martin Okoturo, Head Of The Dental Centre, Emphasized That Good Oral Health Is Fundamental To Overall Well-being. He Noted That Maintaining Proper Oral Hygiene Serves As A Boost To General Health And Significantly Affects Daily Activities Such As Eating And Speaking. Dr. Okoturo Reiterated That The Essence Of World Oral Health Day Lies In Promoting Positive Oral Health Practices And Encouraging Environmental And Societal Changes That Encourage Better Hygiene Habits. In His Address, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Chief Medical Director Of LASUTH, Commended The Department For Its Dedication To Managing A High Patient Volume. While Critiquing The Content Of The Celebration, He Opined That The Inclusion Of A Webinar Might Have Added Value. He Applauded The Department For Its Commitment In Contributing To The Economic Growth Of The Hospital And Announced Plans For An Upgrade Of The Dental Centre To A Four Storey Structure. Adding To The Discourse, Dr. Olubunmi Onigbinde, Head Of Preventive Dentistry At LASUTH Elaborated On This Year’s Theme, “A Happy Mouth Is A Happy Mind,” Also Highlighting The Vital Connection Between Oral Health And Mental Well-being. She Expatiated On Aspects Such As The Promotion Of Preventive Care, Reducing The Burden Of Oral Diseases, Advocating For Accessible Dental Services, Boosting Confidence And Social Interactions, And Reinforcing The Link Between Oral And General Health. She Explained That Satisfaction With One’s Dental Health Is Closely Linked To Mental Peace, While Severe Oral Pain Can Negatively Impact Psychological well-being.
