LASUTH Management Hosts Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) UK Delegation During Visit To Mirabel Centre

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Of The United Kingdom Parliament, In Collaboration With The Nigerian National Assembly, Paid A Courtesy Visit To The Mirabel Centre At The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) On Thursday, March 6, 2025.

The Delegation Was Welcomed And Introduced By The Managing Partner And Founder Of Mirabel Centre, Mrs. Itoro Eze-Anaba, Alongside Her Team. In Her Remarks, Mrs. Eze-Anaba Highlighted The Mirabel Centre's Longstanding Relationship With The Then Duchess Of Edinburgh, UK, Explaining That The Inspiration To Establish The Center Came From Her Visit To Manchester In 2003, Where She Encountered A Similar Model Of Care. As Nigeria First Sexual Assault Referral Center, The Mirabel Centre Was Established In July 2013 To Provide Free Medical, Legal, And Psychosocial Support To Survivors Of Sexual And Gender-based Violence. Operating As A Non-profit Organization Within LASUTH, The Centre Offers Confidential Medical Examinations, Counseling, And Legal Aid. It Also Collaborates With Law Enforcement Agencies, Hospitals, And Advocacy Groups While Running Awareness Campaigns To Combat Sexual Violence.

Leading The CPA UK Delegation, Kate Osamor, A UK Parliamentarian And Chair Of The CPA UK Branch, Expressed Appreciation To The LASUTH Management And The Mirabel Centre For Their Warm Reception. She Explained That The Primary Objective Of The Visit Was To Discuss The Special Spaces Bill, Which Aims To Increase Women's Participation In Parliament And Leadership Roles. Osamor Stressed The Importance Of Enhancing Female Visibility In Political Representation And Promoting Gender Inclusion In Governance. Despite The Bill Being The Primary Focus, She Noted That The Delegation Was Also Eager To Learn From Nigeria Experiences In Healthcare And Social Welfare.

The Chief Medical Director Of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Delighted To Welcome The Delegation, Said That Hosting The Mirabel Centre Has Positively Enhanced The Hospital Public Image. He Commended The Lagos State Government, Led By Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, For Its Support In Enhancing Healthcare Services At LASUTH And For Strengthening The Ministry Of Justice Efforts To Combat Sexual And Gender-based Violence.

Prof. Fabamwo Described Lagos State As Nigeria Commercial Capital And LASUTH As A Pivotal Healthcare Institution In The Region. He Emphasized The Critical Role Of The Family Medicine Department As The First Point Of Contact For Patients, Where Medical Examinations, Clinical Investigations, And Necessary Treatments Are Provided. He Pledged The Hospital Continued Commitment And Support To The Centre, Expressing Hope For Its Expansion To Further Serve Those In Need.

The CPA UK Delegation Included David Mandel, Karen Bradley, Lord Oates, Dr. Beccy Cooper, Fred Thomas, Jacob Loose, Magdalena Elbeleidi, Rt. Hon. Dame Karen Bradley, And Wale Adebajo From The British Department High Commission. The Nigerian National Assembly Delegates Present Were Ajao Asimiyu Olatoye, Rotimi Olabode Miye, Aisha Ali Kotoko, And Michael Ayeni.
