The National Inter-School Music Competition & Academic Award (NISMCAA), A Prestigious Platform Created For Music Contests Among Secondary School Students As Well As An Academic Merit Award, Honored The Chief Medical Director Of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, With An Award For Intellectual Advancement Of Medicine And Education During Its 9th Edition. The Award Recognizes And Appreciates His Achievements And Contributions To Health And Education In Lagos State And Nigeria. The Event This Year , Which Featured Musical Performances From Various Secondary Schools, Had The Theme 'Music As A Means Of Driving Social Change . Established In 2009, NISMCAA Organises This Annual Event To Promote Musival And Academic Performance In Secondary Schools. The Music Contest Aims To Stimulate The Development Of School Music Groups And Individuals Creative Talents In Music And Dance, While The Academic Award Rewards Excellence Among Students In Core Academic Subjects. This Initiative Seeks To Sharpen Students' Minds Academically, Instill Patriotism, And Foster Commitment To Nation-building. It Also Aims To Discover Hidden Music Talents And Support Students In Achieving Their Musical Aspirations. In His Acceptance Speech, Prof. Fabamwo Expressed Admiration For The Young Performers And Reflected On The Apparently Unknown Connection Between Music And Wellness. He Reiterated The Organiser's Choice To Present Him An Award. He Said The Organisers Explained That They Had Been Observing His Contributions To Medical Education Aa Well As Healthcare Through His Role As LASUTH Chief Medical Director, The Only State-owned Tertiary Hospital In Lagos State. He Then Shared Some Things They Didn't Know About Him. First And Foremost, That He Is A Music Enthusiast. Secondly, That He Was A Choir Member In His Church For 15 Years. Finally, That He Performs Occasionally With Live Bands At His Club And Can Sing Several Victor Olaiya's Highlife Pieces Effortlessly. He Further Expressed His Amazement At The Outstanding Talents Showcased During The Competition, Emphasizing That Young Musicians Are Often Understated And Unsung In Nigeria. He Also Acknowledged The Potential Of Young Talents, Citing The Example Of The 13-year-old Individual Category Pianist Whose Performance Left A Lasting Impression On Him. "If This Young Boy Were In The United States, He Would Already Be Earning Millions Of Dollars From His Performances. I Wouldn't Be Surprised If Someone Soon Discovers Him And Takes Him Abroad. Our Youths Possess Pure, Raw, And Undiluted Talent, And We Must Identify, Nurture, And Promote Them." In Concluding, Prof Fabamwo Revealed His Membership Of An Organisation Called Music Minds Whose Founder, Mr Yinka Alakija Unfortunately Passed On Recently. The Organization Is Also Dedicated To Recognizing And Supporting Young Music Talents And He Pledged To Connect Music Minds With The Organizers Of NISMCAA To Create More Opportunities For Young Talents. Commending The Event Judges, He Praised Their Constructive Criticism And Fairness In Judgment, Acknowledging The Difficulty In Selecting Winners From Such An Array Of Outstanding Performances. Prof. Fabamwo Also Emphasized The Crucial Role Of Music In Healthcare, As He Highlighted How Music Is Used In Hospitals For Patient Rehabilitation, Stress Reduction, And Mental Health Treatment, Noting That It Has Been Scientifically Proven To Aid Recovery And Improve Overall Well-being. ??Music Is An Integral Part Of Modern Healthcare. In Some Surgical Theaters, Doctors Often Play Music During Procedures Because It Helps Maintain Focus, Reduces Stress, And Creates A Calming Atmosphere.
