UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES TEACHING HOSPITAL , ONDO STATE, VISITS LASUTH TO UNDERSTUDY ITS TRAINING SCHOOLS' OPERATIONS

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Played Host To A Delegation From The University Of Medical And Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo State, Which Was On A Knowledge Acquisition Visit. The Purpose Of The Visit Was To Gain Insights Into LASUTH Successful Establishment And Management Of Its Various Training Schools, Which Have Become Models Of Excellence In Health Sector Middle Level Manpower Development.

Welcoming The Delegation, The Chief Medical Director Of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Highlighted The Hospital Commitment To Capacity Building In The Healthcare Sector. He Stated, "At LASUTH, We Recognize The Critical Role Of Specialized Training In Strengthening Healthcare Delivery. Our Training Schools Were Created To Bridge Identified Gaps In The Health Sector, Ensuring That Professionals Receive Top-notch Training Tailored To Meet The Evolving Needs Of The Health Sector."

The CMD Further Emphasized That The Establishment Of These Training Schools Aligns With LASUTH Legal Mandates, Which Includes Training, Service Delivery, And Research As Its Core Functions.

Also Speaking Further, The Director Of Clinical Services And Training And Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya, Provided An Overview Of LASUTH Training Institutions, Stressing Their Strategic Importance. "LASUTH Has Established A Range Of Specialized Training Programs Designed To Equip Healthcare Professionals With Critical Skills Across Various Disciplines. We Aim To Develop Highly Competent Practitioners Who Will Contribute Meaningfully To The Nigerian Healthcare System", He Noted

Prof. Adekoya Also Announced Plans For Upcoming Training Programs, Including The School Of Paramedics And The School Of Nephrology Nursing, Which Will Further Expand LASUTH Contributions To Specialized Health Care Capacity Building.

Each Head Of School Made A Detailed Presentation, Covering Their Institution Vision, Mission, Objectives, Establishment, Affiliations, Accreditation Processes, Curriculum, And Achievements. The Training Institutions Include The School Of Anaesthetic Technology, With Dr. Titilayo Awodesu (Consultant Anaesthetist) As The Director; The School Of Orthopaedic Cast Technology, With Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babarimisa (Deputy Director Of Nursing Services) As The Director; The School Of Echocardiography, With Dr. Adeola Ajibare (Consultant Cardiologist) As The Director; Caregiver Academy, With Mrs. Monsurat Oyebode (Director Of Nursing Services) As Head Of School; The School Of Postgraduate Diploma In Hospital Administration And Management, With Mrs. Ronke Famakinwa (Deputy Director, Hospital Administration & Human Resources) As The Director; The School Of Advanced Neonatal Studies, With Dr. Ayodeji Akinola (Consultant Paediatrician) As The Head Of School.

The UNIMEDTH Delegation Engaged With Key Stakeholders Managing LASUTH Training Programs, Gaining Valuable Insights Into Curriculum Development, Accreditation Processes, Admission Requirements, And Operational Frameworks. The Team Was Also Given A Guided Tour Of LASUTH Facilities To Observe First-hand The Hospital Infrastructure Supporting These Training Programs.

Expressing Appreciation, The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) Of UNIMEDTH, Prof. Ayodeji Akinbodewa, Who Led The Delegation, Lauded LASUTH For Its Achievements And Openness In Knowledge Sharing. He Affirmed That The Insights Gained Would Be Instrumental In Shaping UNIMEDTH Approach To Establishing And Managing Its Training Schools.
