The Nutrition And Dietetics Department Of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Joined The Global Community In Celebrating Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day (RDN Day) On Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The Celebration, Themed “Discover The Power Of Nutrition,” Featured Activities Such As A Health Walk And Health Talks Aimed At Sensitizing Patients And Staff Of LASUTH On The Importance Of Proper Nutrition For Overall Health And Wellbeing.
Speaking During The Courtesy Visit To The Management, The Head Of The Nutrition And Dietetics Department, Ms. Titilayo Omodudu, Accompanied By Members Of Her Team, Explained That Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day Is An Annual Celebration That Recognizes The Vital Role Of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) In Promoting Healthy Eating Habits, Preventing Diseases, And Improving Public Health Through Proper Nutrition.
She Noted That The Day Is Observed Every Year On The Second Wednesday In March As Part Of National Nutrition Month, A Global Campaign Dedicated To Educating People About Making Informed Food Choices And Developing Healthy Eating And Physical Activity Habits.
Ms. Omodudu Further Explained That The Celebration Was Established By The Academy Of Nutrition And Dietetics, The World’s Largest Organization Of Food And Nutrition Professionals. According To Her, The Initiative Was Created To Recognize The Expertise And Dedication Of Dietitians, Highlight The Importance Of Nutrition In Healthcare, And Increase Awareness Of The Role Nutrition Professionals Play In Disease Prevention. She Emphasized That Registered Dietitian Nutritionists Help Individuals And Communities Make Evidence-based Food Choices That Support Long-term Health And Wellbeing.
In His Remarks, The Chief Medical Director Of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Saluted The Nutrition And Dietetics Department For The Critical Role They Play In The Overall Care Of Patients At The Hospital.
He Noted That Nutrition Plays A Vital Role In The Management And Progression Of Many Diseases. According To Him, In The Management Of Both Chronic And Acute Conditions Treated At LASUTH, Dietary Components Form An Essential Part Of Patient Care.
Prof. Fabamwo Explained That Dietitians Are Responsible For Conducting Daily Assessments Of Patients’ Dietary Needs To Ensure That Their Nutrition Supports Recovery And Does Not Compromise Their Health.
The CMD Assured That The Hospital Management Will Continue To Support The Department To Ensure Its Continued Growth And Effectiveness. He Also Commended The Head Of The Department For Her Passion And Commitment To The Development Of The Unit, Particularly For Working With Management To Secure Accreditation For The Department To Train Dietetics Interns.
He Encouraged Members Of The Department To Continue Providing Excellent Services And To Keep Adding Value To The Healthcare System, Noting That LASUTH Remains Committed To Maintaining Its Reputation As One Of The Leading Tertiary Healthcare Institutions In Nigeria.
